Sardinia is the only Italian region to host one of the five Blue Zones within this beautiful island. The Ogliastra area, located in the central-eastern area of the island, is populated by a series of charming small towns characterized by the longevity of its inhabitants. Studies conducted in this blue zone indicate that the longevity of the inhabitants is due to some particular factors:

  • The average altitude at which the blue zone is located
  • Nutrition based on a low-fat, high-protein diet

To these are added the psycho-social factors: low emotional stress, optimism, maintenance of an “ancient” lifestyle in which tradition still has a strong influence on daily life.
